Jake Owens and his beautiful young wife buy the ranch adjoining the McCain's. Lucas and Mark makes friendly overtures but are rebuffed. They soon learn that Jake is insanely jealous of his wife—without cause—and stubbornly imagines Lucas and Mrs. Owens are having a romance. He threatens to kill Lucas, but his bitterness and antagonism almost lead to his own death, instead.
