While Roger and Cheetah are washing the jeep, an estranged native man enters the camp unnoticed. When Rogers goes into the hut for a break, he hears the sounds of clanging metal. He runs outside to find the native man attacking the jeep with a stick. Tarzan arrives and subdues the man, communicating with guttural sounds and hand gestures. From his conversation with primitive man, Atu, Tarzan discovers that the man is running way from a work camp, filled with subversive construction workers. Atu has been separated from his family and he needs help finding them in the forest. He is also suffering from an injured leg. Jane bandages Atu's wounds and tells him to rest for a few days. During his recovery periods, Atu learns and shares with Tarzan and the group. Tarzan shows him how to shoot a bow and arrow, and Atu shows Tarzan ho to use a blow gun. Meanwhile, Roger hopes to exploit his relations with Atu and become a famous anthropologist. When Atu is healthy enough to travel, Tarzan leads him and the group into the jungle to find Atu's family. they encounter swamps and predators along the way, with a poisonous snake attacking Jane. Thankfully, Atu knows an ancient trick, which hypnotizes the snake and sends the reptile off on a different path. Finally, Atu is reunited with his wife and son, and everyone exchanges tearful goodbyes. Roger learns to respect Atu's primitive nature, and recognize the value of Atu's natural education.
