Isabel, a North Fork spinster, has been corresponding with John Jupiter, and the two decide to marry even though they have never met in person. Jupiter arrives in North Fork and Isabel asks Lucas and Mark to meet him at the depot and bring him to her home. They become friends, and Lucas is called upon to help Jupiter and Isabel out when two ill-tempered brothers, who want to get their hands on some property Isabel has an option on, begin a vicious plan to get rid of Jupiter—even going to the extreme of burning his house and threatening to shoot him.
