Cisco and Pancho discover the huge mine outside of Lattimore is in a state of armed war, where the gunfighting mine guards believe the workers from town are responsible for pilfering small amounts of gold at a time, which adds up to a fortune. Believing Cisco was hired by the townspeople, Kells, the supervisor, kidnaps him to find out their plans. Kells is killed in a fight and the guards are jailed for their part. Then Cisco discovers the thief to be a crow, trained to steal nuggets from the gold weighing room at the mine. The owner of the crow, a shoemaker, has been shipping the gold out of town a little at a time in fake boot soles and heels worn by a freight wagon driver.
